ANNOUNCEMENT: Canine and Ferret Diet Improvements

Printable PDF

As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering the highest quality nutrition, we are pleased to announce an enhancement to several LabDiet® formulations for carnivorous species including canine and ferrets.

Previously, a combination of chicken meal and poultry by-product meal (PBPM) was utilized in canine and ferret diets. Moving forward, we will be replacing PBPM with chicken meal in select diets. This change reflects our dedication to continuous improvement and is based on extensive evaluation of ingredient quality, consistency, and nutritional performance.

Chicken meal is widely recognized as a premium protein source in carnivore nutrition. Unlike PBPM, which may include parts such as heads, feet, and entrails, chicken meal is derived exclusively from flesh and skin, ensuring a more consistent and higher-quality ingredient. This transition supports our goal of maintaining optimal diet integrity while aligning with international regulatory standards.
Below, you will find a list of diets that will be updated to include only chicken meal. All other ingredients in these diets will remain unchanged.

We understand such changes can be a challenge to your facility and/or research program but feel these changes were necessary to ensure we continue to provide our customers with the highest quality diets possible. We do not anticipate these changes affecting palatability or appearance of the diet or growth or reproductive performance of the animals. The changes will be effective starting October 28th, 2025. Diet specification sheets and tags will be updated as soon as possible to reflect these changes. Please bear with us as we update these sources of ingredient information.

For additional questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us at info@labdiet.com. A nutritionist will be readily available to assist you.

Thank you,
