WELCOME
Welcome to the LabDiet® Product Reference Manual.  This manual is published especially for members of the Laboratory Community, like you, who need to be able to reference critical information in a concise and convenient way.

Information is drawn from a variety of sources.  The result? The most comprehensive profiles of individual animals in your lab, as well as detailed charts on their care and feeding requirements.

A complete analysis of all LabDiet® products is also included to help in many of your research protocols.

Each LabDiet® is manufactured exclusively at our ISO 9001:2000 Certified, drug and synthetic estrogen-free plant in Richmond, Indiana. The process techniques we use at the plant are closely controlled to ensure your lab animals get the Constant Nutrition™ your research requires.

Approximate chemical compositions of our major products can be found in the feed analysis charts.  These values are calculated according to the amount of each ingredient present and its nutrient composition.  We maintain constant vigilance over the nutrient content of ingredients through a program of continuous formulation analysis.

Analyzing ingredients -- in addition to final products -- enables us to lessen the interaction between nutrients and achieve greater accuracy.   Thus, reducing the nutritional variables in your studies.

The team of experts at LabDiet® welcomes the opportunity to consult with you about the specific dietary needs of the animals in your care.  We look forward to working with you and invite your suggestions on how we can better serve you.  Because we mean it when we say, LabDiet®...Your Work is Worth It™.

Your Measure of Success

Each nutritional component has a specified unit of measurement. When the notation "ppm" is used, the component is being measured in parts per million. Parts per million is also sometimes referred to as milligrams per kilogram, or mg/kg. Some components are measured in micrograms per kilogram, or mcg/kg or ug/kg. Micrograms per kilogram is equivalent to the notation "ppb" or parts per billion.

In some cases the old values for nutritional components have been changed. To prepare for this revision, we researched the most recent information available on the nutritional composition of all of our ingredients. Information was obtained from a number of sources (including the National Research Council, personal conversations with prominent researchers in the field and others) and was then compiled for your quick reference.

When data on a particular nutrient was scarce or unavailable, the ingredients were assayed. Our computer system was then updated, using this information, and recalculated the chemical composition of all of our products. The reported figure on the nutritional composition of the diets is determined by calculating the level of each nutrient contributed by each of the ingredients using a computer matrix. These values are checked occasionally by an analytical laboratory. As a result, the information in this revised version is the most accurate, and current available.

The fundamental principle of Constant Nutritionª in our LabDiet® products remains uniform... as it's been since our introduction to the research community, over 60 years ago. We haven't changed the composition of our trusted, familiar standard LabDiet® products. We have simply become more knowledgeable about their composition...and we are pleased to be able to pass that knowledge on to you.
