LabDiet® Announces 2000 Animal Nutrition Symposia

Purina Mills has scheduled initial dates for a series of one-day animal nutrition seminars in locations throughout the country. The meetings are designed for anyone working in a laboratory animal facility. Attendees will learn more about Purina Mills, the LabDiet® and TestDiet® product lines, how animal feeds are formulated and produced, how diets are analyzed, how nutrients and non-nutrients affect the diet and information on other pertinent topics to inform and educate laboratory research personnel.

The meetings will be hosted by Purina Mills in conjunction with the local Certified LabDiet® Dealer. The agenda will also include guest speakers from the nutrition and research industries. The seminars will begin at 8:30am and end at 3:30pm at each location. Lunch will be served at each seminar.

There is no cost to attend the seminar, however pre-registration is required. Please fax, mail or e-mail your registration by the deadline date for the meeting you would like to attend. Seats will be limited, so be sure to register today.

2000 Purina Mills LabDiet® Laboratory Animal Technician Award

The Purina Mills Laboratory Animal Technician Award is one of the most time honored, respected and prestigious awards in the AALAS community.  Purina Mills LabDiet® invites you, your colleagues or associates to submit nominations for this award.  The unique feature of this annual award is that the winner is chosen by his or her peers.  The selection committee this year consists of the award winners from 1997, 1998 and 1999, Ms. Ivette Martinez-Palma, Dr. Robert Weichbrod and Mr. Richard Cluck.

Candidates will be considered on the basis of experience, animal care activities and contributions to the advancement of all aspects of the animal technician field.  The winner of the award will receive $500 and the distinguished 2000 Purina Mills Laboratory Animal Technician Award Plaque.

Accordingly, please submit your recommendations by August 13, 2000, along with a manuscript detailing the candidate's professional experience, his or her contributions to the advancement of technicians, a list of his or her published works, presentations and awards, national and state animal care activities, and a summary of "why you believe the nominee should receive the award".  Please also include nominee's telephone number and e-mail address, for ease of contact should your nominee become the 2000 award winner.
